12 Blog Rock Stars I Am Indebted To

Friends catching upImage by InspirationDC via Flickr

I took my brain for a walk today so it can take in some fresh air. I have been a little testy of late and it’s sapping my energy. Not useful at all.

For a change, I’m putting on blinders to take a look at the bright side. And being thankful is a potent way of dismissing this negativity that’s starting to eat my insides.

Voltaire says, “Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.”

So here are my rock stars whose excellence I have appropriated for myself:

1. DiTesco : Thank you for that long email you wrote me last night explaining how to register for a domain name through Google, and hosting the same at Blogger. Thanks as well for your helpful SEO tips and blogging insights.

2. Rocky: He’s lots of useful posts about SEO and blogging tips. And he has this fantastic blog contest wherein he’s giving away free domain name, free hosting for one year, free Thesis theme, and technical support to make your transfer to self-hosting seamless. You still have time to join his contest until April 30.

3. Jaypee : For answering my comments on his blog by personal email, for shedding light on my numerous concerns in Gmail Chat, and for asking me to guest post on his blog. Perhaps a nice way of shutting me up so my good buddy will have some peace of mind for at least a day or two?

4. Joji: My psychic blog buddy, my conscience and part-time tormentor, my constant source of mirth and inspiration.

5. Dee: Eloquent lips, brilliant mind and generous heart. Join her blog contest to win the book Chicken Soup for the Soul.

6. Bingkee : For the tough love and enduring friendship and the constant stream of tips and useful advice.

7. Yatot: My first blog buddy who’s into creative writing now. He came back from his Hong Kong hiatus during the Holy Week a changed man: turned suddenly reclusive and has launched a new religion.

8. Elmot : For his skillful interrogation methods. This will serve you well in blogging, young brother. It’s a good thing you’ve the compassion to temper your scary skills.

9. Dan: Not all young hotshots are little rascals. Dan who pens Command Your Time helps you in maximizing your self-fulfillment . He’s only 13 years old but this early he can put many of us to shame with his excellent networking skills, perfect manners and genuine interest in people.

10. Terry of Bloggity – Simple Blog Tips, thanks for selecting me as one of your winners in Blog Boosting Brouhaha contest. This means he’d mentor me and Dan, and three other lucky winners so we can master blogging issues which are holding us back. Finding solutions to these concerns will help us catapult our blogs into the blogosphere.

11. Roy : For your deft behind-the-scenes quarterbacking. I’m very thankful for your suggestions, links, and steadying influence. Your email ninja skills are amazing.

12. Zorlone : Doctor by day, poet by night, Z wields the scalpel and pen equally well. This Pinoy William Carlos Williams slows me down to read poetry. Very tempting, but this might make me young again and there’s danger in that, my good sir.

Who are your rock stars? Have you put in a good word about them lately? Do they know they’re appreciated?

    Jan,
Now I know why I woke up at 4:30 in the morning! I was drawn by the calls of the Banshee that is your Blog.

I would call Apollo to deliver the great news of your appreciation. This healer is but a humble poet who write about warriors of the web like yourself.

Thank you for this post and more power to you!

Cheers and taste the sweet nectar of Ambrosia!

Gee, I always wanted to stick my tounge out and bang my head while I strut my stuff on my guitar

    rock on! \mm/

    p.s.
yeah, I dreamt of being a ninja too ;)

    Thanks!
  • jojigirl
You totally rock! Love it! - constant source of mirth and inspiration, but part-time tormentor? hmmmm... I'm seriously considering working full time, hahaha! Never thought you could make use of a scatterbrain for your conscience. Oh, that PSYCHedelIC quality? That's some BS degree you gave to oddball, haha...you make my heart fat, and my tummy bloat. LOL
  • Jan
@Z: Cool reference to Apollo, Ambrosia, and nectar. But Banshee titillates me for sure.

@Roy: Go easy on the sticking out the tongue part. You're likely to scare off your muses. ",)

@joji: You're one of a few people who can tell me to go easy when I tend to be full of myself. And you've a witty way of saying it. That's why I said you're my part-time tormentor. Your busy schedule does not let you to go full-time, joji. ",)
  • jojigirl
Jan, you're just fortunate I have other brainiacs to my attention, hehehe...
  • Jan
@joji: Thanks for little mercies. But I had better attract not too much attention then - just in case. I've been witness to your formidable tracking system, and I must say, it's uncanny. Except of course until now the little rascal has failed to reg a beep in your radar.
  • Dee
Oh, I see my name there! Wow! I'm not gonna contest the eloquent lips and all that, even if I'm not certain if all that accurately describes me. All I'm gonna say is: Thank you! :)

You know, I resonate with the second paragraph of this post because that's how I've been feeling lately... And I noticed that others are feeling the same. Maybe it's the weather...

    Jan,

The attempt to even remotely match your insanely creative writing skills led me to the lad of myth, ergo, my last comment.

    Keep on writing masterpieces!

  • Jan
@Dee: I always strive for accuracy, Dee. It's you I'm describing all right.

Yeah, the heat is driving me nuts. Very handy to blame the weather though. Prevents us from pointing the blame elsewhere. ",)

@Z: You're the creative spirit, Z. I'm just a hyper pencil pusher. But thanks. I needed that. ",)
  • zorlone
I'm glad that helped! I am in need of an inspiration to fuel my work. I can't seem to stick with a particular topic and my fingers fly off with my mind out of the window chasing each other.

Anyway, I will try to get some work done tonight.

The reason why I think I am at home with poetry is that it avoids all of the sentence construction rules and stand by on it's own.

    Z
  • Jan
@Z: Thanks. Know what, the sentence construction and all that are just window dressing. Once you nail that idea or capture the exact sentiment you'd be all set. And I'm pretty sure you will. ",)
  • bingkee
I know what this "tough love" means--LOL!. I can't help but laugh. "Tough love "means that I am so frank and honest because "I love you". Hahahaha! You hit it right...my close friends and best friends know that's how I care ---sometimes scolding because I just want you to have the best and be the best.
Pardon my mouth sometimes---assertiveness can sometimes get me either into trouble or appreciation...and you indeed appreciate it.
  • bingkee
One more thing Jan--don't host it at Google. Google has never been recognized as one of the best host for domain name or hosting platform. Go for GoDaddy, BlueHost, FatCow or HostMonster. They're the best...I will email you the list of the best web hosts in the world complete with user reviews and ratings. Migration is easy, I tell you. I did it. The only problem I encountered with WP software is that because I'm so used to Typepad that I found WP a little bit difficult. But I rather go for WP (they're the host of 26 of the top 100 blogs in the world. Typepad has 16 and Blogger has only 3).
  • Jan
@bingkee: You're hitting all the right notes, Viviene. What's an occasional dressing down between friends? ",) Besides, it's hard to get an honest opinion sometimes. We have a tendency not to alienate, not to hurt, not be so open with each other. I so totally get where you're coming from. And I appreciate it. ",)
  • Jan
@bingkee: Will take note of that. Good to know your take on these things...Those stats you mentioned - that's amazing. Well, once again, thanks for the info.
  • elmot
hahaha! thanks for including me in your list my big brother.

me, an interrogator? nah...don't worry, i would not use it against you. i was under oath during that time, remember?
  • Jan
@elmot: Good to hear. And as long as you don't write a post about it, we're good. ",)
  • diTesco
Hello Jan. First I would like to thank you for the wonderful appreciation you have made for everyone on this list. This shows that you are one hell of a "rocking blogger". The more important aspect of what you have not said here but is present is that you are sincere and honest. That my friend is what makes you unique, hence, everything you write is unique and of quality beyond doubt. Thanks, and needless to say... Just walk through my door.. for you it is always open
  • Jan
@diTesco: That's one of the nicest compliments I have received in a long time. Thank you.
  • yatot
hahahha... i was absent for two consecutive days.. i did not know about this stuff... hahhaha... anyway thanks for including me here on your exclusive list! lols! hhhahhah... if you want to join my new-found religion... there's no fee in joining! it's totally free! awll you have to do is praise and worship judai! wahhahha! =P
  • Jan
@yatot: Yeah, I noticed that. Not a peep from your end. What happened? You're deep into your masterpiece?...Oh, my idea of star gazing is as old as the universe itself. Think: Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, and Babalu. Those stars I kinda love.

    Jan,

Thanks for the mention. I really appreciate your hand on my contest. :)

    Have fun blogging. :)

    Rocky
  • Jan
@Rocky: It's a fantastic contest for bloggers. Needs all the extra push it can get. ".)

Oh, that's a tempting offer, Elms. Naah, baka mabawasan mga fans. Alam mo na naman, once you're old you don't get to play the lead roles. Bummer, right? But so true. Filipinos are ageists. Most of us are. :'(
  • elmot
nope....no bummer for big bro jan. look at the godfather lead star? immortal. waheheheh.

most of us...excluding your readers and your little bro at elm's st.

Nice answer. I like! Now, aside from being a good political columnist, you now have the making of a good politician. Manny Villar? Ping Lacson? Just kidding, Elms.
