Why My Blog Is Not a Tramp

A blog can be seduced by shady operators lurking in the underbelly of the blogosphere.  She can easily turn out to be a tramp.

But let’s have a moratorium on blog moralizing for once.  This post is not about that at all.  Maybe in the future, but not today.  Let’s just say a blog can be a strange beast. To appease the beast,  it needs constant feeding.  When I excused myself in Twitter early this evening to write a post, I tweeted I had to feed the blogging beast. Twitter conversationalist extraordinaire @zorlone was puzzled.

“Beasty who?”

“I call my blog the blogging beast.  Always hungry.”

The ever creative Zorlone or Doc Z nicknamed my blog Juju.  No, no, it’s not slutty at all, Doc Z reassured me.  This name means a charm believed to have magical powers which has its origin in South Africa.  Well, that description fits my Juju all right.  Thanks, Doc Z.

And so my blog is not a tramp after all.  Juju is a young lady.  Why?  She’s just coming into her own now – just all of six months last June 4 – but this early she’s the makings of a great lady:

  1. It takes her forever preening at the mirror.  She’s always conscious of her looks.  “Am I getting fat or what!”  She’s always crossing her t’s and dotting her i’s in the mirror.  And she practices to tame her hyena laugh and to convert it into charming chuckle.
  2. She’s high maintenance.  Juju needs constant attention.  She needs to show her face at the balcony of the mansion every other day to wave her handkerchief at the commoners below.  She needs this like an adrenaline shot.  Else,  she’d shut herself up in the attic and hang a note on the door which says, “Lady’s block”
  3. She’s high standards.  A man can live down taking residence in Blogger.  A house is a house as long as the door is secure and the cupboard is well stocked and cured meat is hanging above the table – all is well.  But Juju can’t be appeased – she needs to come up in the world.  WordPress is that dream house on the suburbs, complete with white picket fences.
  4. She’s a force of nature.  Juju has got a temper and is not afraid to use it.  Very cunning, knows how to play mind games. Juju knows more than she lets on.  She reels you in and when you’re taken in Juju sometimes leaves you to fend for yourself.
  5. She’s maternal – protective of her turf, takes care of her friends and even hangers-on.  And she presides over her dominion with an even hand, playing no favorites.
  6. She’s in for the long haul. She doesn’t countenance quickies  or quick gropes in the dark.  She goes for stability and commitment and constancy.  Those are her buzzwords.
  7. She’s inscrutable. What will keep her humming like a well-oiled machine?  God knows what that is – is it the visitation from a long absent admirer?  Not sure.  Is it unqualified praise?  Maybe.  Is it the proper conjunction of stars in heaven?  Who knows.

All I know is that I’m glad I have her.  She keeps my steps friskier in the morning. And at night, I’d sigh just looking at the pools of her black, implacable eyes.

So what do you make of your blog?  Is it a panther,  Evita Peron maybe or is it a luxury ocean liner?  Perhaps a spaceship on a mission to the edge of the cosmos?  What strange species is it?

I see my blog as the moon, the inconstant moon, that monthly changes in her circled orb. Juliet?

Yes, the moon. It seems that my lady is fond of change. She’s stubborn but knows how to listen. And like your young lady, my lady also has this high, silent standard. From house interior and exterior, she thinks about pleasing her visitors with good food served on beautiful porcelains.

Though young and aggressive, she has a plan and continuously updates her wish list and to-do list to make her way to womanhood smooth and elegant.

You look lovely today Juju. Those menacing dark wild eyes and those fierce long Sabertooth set of fangs of yours are ivory white! I bet LJ uses Happy toothpaste to brush them!

The color of your skin is so pale Juju, too pale perhaps that it needs some taint of blood red to show some more life, huh? I know a substitute for your blood lust, Ketsup! They are both red and it tastes better than blood. Believe me, I know, I’ve been exposed to a lot of blood in my long hours at the operating room and you’ll get sick of the piscine smell.

Sit Juju, uncle Z just wants to say hi. Okay, stop nibbling at my foot… right, return it when you’re done Juju… JUJU!!!

LJ,

I for the past few days, I believe there was a spike in traffic that your blog brought. So much traffic that you got your PR 3 rating back! Wow! You really know how to take care of a lady – um, make that, lady beast!

Now can you please tell Juju to return my foot, what’s left of it anyway. This will take me the whole night to sew it back on.

@Doc Z: Who would have thought our conversation in Twitter would be kneaded, tossed in the air and came down as a post? I did not. It’s a spur of the moment. I thought, “So you can’t unplug from Twitter huh? Okay, write something about your recent tweet. ” And here it is.

Of course, there will be other days for Ketchup post(s). :)

Can’t figure out Google. I have yet to harness the power of my reluctant SEO fingers and there it is – Google buttering me up again. Is it a set up for a big fall later?

Don’t say bad words, Doc Z. I have no budget yet for getting dedicated server for my blog – my humble blog can’t take a steep spike of web traffic although I wish it were so. One blogging goal at at time. Hehehe.

Zorlone June 26, 2009 at 2:18 am

Well, Juju is getting a lot of attention these days, simply because of the care you do for her. Now could you please tell your beast of a blog to stop humping my other foot???

“Juju, stop doing that.”

LJ, it’s amazing how conversations end up in a post. The one that I had ended up as a poem in my blog. hehehe. These little inspirations only make our blogging better, don’t they?

@Doc Z: Your days are numbered. Juju is not into humping. She’s more of a Dominatrix meet Black Widow type. :)

Twitter maybe a playground, or the new office cooler, but it’s a lot more. It’s rife with seeds of great blog post ideas.

Just a few minutes ago, I tweeted @JenaIsle has become a Summa Cum Laude of Retweets. She asked why I said that. And I answered: “You find great tweets, then you pay them forward via retweets. That’s tops in my book. Others tweet nothing but their own links.”

And she said, “You yourself said, ‘To be great, carry others on should shoulders…’”

From that conversation alone – I’d be inspired to write a post. Wouldn’t you? :)

LJ,

I better get away from Juju, unless she has evolved super senses that can track me from beyond the sea of Batangas LOL.

I see what you are going about what Jena said. Inspirational, huh? (hint: yung word na inspirational doesn’t it ring any bells?)

Oh, I’d be making poems out of it, when the conditions are right. I may be looking at something inspirational, but, if I am not in the mood… yikes! I wouldn’t be able to start a line in a stanza. whaaaa!!!!

hey, jan. men are getting more gender- sensitive these days, unafraid of referring to symbols and images that can be associated with women. so juju, is it? your description reminds me of isis, a goddess of motherhood and fertility in the ancient egyptian tradition who is a friend and refuge to both the slaves and aristocrats. she welcomes everyone sans discrimination and pays attention to all what there is that everyone has to say just like you who would take time genuinely replying to each comment in the post.

That’s nicely put Jan. It would be a grand ambition for anyone to be able to do that. That could only be done through a concerted effort among all bloggers .

But I like the way you put it – “a refuge ” WOW! I wish that were true. Sometimes my pride and self-centeredness come into the equation and it becomes a real challenge to be able to do so.

My puny efforts are unobtrusive in the vast ocean of humanity, but we should keep trying… keep at it everyday. We still have not failed if we haven’t given up on it, right Jan?
